Getting Ready for a Caribbean Getaway

Guys. July has flown by! I’m still wrapping my brain around the fact I leave for the Caribbean in less than a week.

My pre-travel to-do list is still being chipped away at, but most of the important tasks have been completed. Updated passport for my stint in the British Virgin Islands? Check. Eye mask, neck pillow and ZzzQuil (love it so far!) for sleeping on my red-eye flight? Check. All of the mosquito repelling things to keep me Zika virus-free? Check. Discovering a schedule of happy hours for two of my destinations? Check. (See here and here.) Bring on the Painkillers! The cocktail, no pills!

Really hoping this ZzzQuil helps me sleep on my flight!

But the biggest thing on my to-do list is to pack! As my trip gets closer, the pile of clothes to pack continues to grow. This is not a great thing considering I’m going to have to cut out many cute summer dresses in the name of packing in a carry-on for my trip! Luckily, my destination boasts a very even-keeled climate, where the average high during my stay will be 85 F practically all the time.

As I typically do when heading to a new place, I’m slightly freaking out weighing my options about what exactly to pack. Most of this panic is due to not having a clear schedule of activities while on our trip. Do I pack for hiking? Dancing? Boating? My schedule and plan-oriented (read: type A) brain is trying to pack for every possible activity we might consider. Carry-on luggage doesn’t really allow for that!

So to ease my packing anxiety a bit, I’ve rounded up two outfit muse boards, if you will. One is envisioned for a casual day exploring the three islands we’ll visit. The other is all about lounging on the beach, no plans required.

I have a feeling we’ll be bar hopping during designated beach days, so cute romper will transition from the beach to the bar when paired with sheer gloss (with SPF!), cute sandals, and a fun carry-all to hold the necessities required to pay for those drinks.

While the weather is supposed to be absolutely lovely, I want to be prepared for any quick rainstorms that are known to occur. My hat will keep my hair from getting too frizzy. Right? I’ll bring a light scarf to cover-up, should my dress want to cling to me after the rain. I’ll to keep my hands free (for efficient eating and drinking) with a cute cross-body bag. Priorities!

I told you I was prepared to keep the mosquitoes at a distance!

See, I’m feeling better about packing already. I’m hoping this my will help to cull my giant “things to pack” pile into a more reasonable stack. The next thing to check off my to-do list? Toiletries! Wish me luck with that one..

I’m still looking for food, booze and exploring recommendations in Puerto Rico! Please send them my way. And be sure to follow me on Twitter and Instagram to join in on my adventures next week!

I received a complimentary sample of ZzzQuil from Influenster for testing purposes. As you can always expect, my opinions are my own.

About In Natalie's Shoes

I’m a twenty-something food fanatic. By day, I’m working for a non-profit, by night I’m dreaming of becoming a domestic goddess, creating adorable crafts to gift and engineering delicious home cooked meals for the fabulous dinner parties I’ll one day throw. I love to travel, locally, regionally… heck, even internationally, I don’t discriminate too much when it comes to a new destination. I am a little obsessed with taking photos of the food I eat, whether I make it or pay to eat it. It is my firm belief that a girl can never have enough purses or too many shoes. I plan to fill this lovely little blog with my adventures in food, travel, and craftiness. I hope you enjoy!
