Friday Five

HAPPY FRIDAY BEFORE THE THE THREE-DAY WEEKEND!

This past week has been long. Let’s cheers to Friday!

1.As if wine needed to be any easier to drink, the wine gods have bestowed upon us these. I’ll take a 12-pack, please.

2. There are plenty of “What to Pack” lists floating around the internet, but this “What Not to Pack” list is slaying it. Thanks for keeping me over-packing tendencies in check.

3. Just because it has breakfast in the title, doesn’t mean we can’t eat these bars for dessert! Ala mode, anyone?

4. Hannah and Adam recommend everyone do these things while in Prague. I couldn’t agree more and my nostalgia is through the roof.

5. I don’t get to eat them very often, but I go absolutely coo-coo bananas for lumpia. Seriously, I’ve downed two orders by myself at Off the Grid in Concord. Now I can make them myself with this recipe, rather than driving all the way to Concord for my fix!

Vanilla Overnight Oats with Almonds and Cranberries

This past weekend was jammed full of events, wine, food, cocktails and travel. I ventured as far south as Santa Cruz for a Leon Russell concert and way up north to Windsor for a wine country fundraiser. (Were you following along on my Instagram?) Sunday we officially celebrated my dad’s birthday with barbecue, bourbon and cake late into the evening. Needless to say, I was not looking forward to starting the week off feeling tired.

I’ve heard that one way to guarantee an energized morning is to eat breakfast within an hour of waking up. I’ve never been one of those people to eat so early! Instead, I require coffee within moments of waking up, which is why I love setting my coffee machine up the night before. No need to think about anything when I’m not awake in the morning — just wander into the kitchen, fill up a cup, top with milk and drink.

Friday Five

Considering I live in Napa, I rarely take part of all of the things this gorgeous valley has to offer. However, the past week (in my world) has been filled to the brim with all things Napa Valley. Coffee dates at Napa Valley Roasting Company, lunch at R+D Kitchen in Yountville (that veggie club, tho!), al fresco dinner at Bistro Don Giovanni’s, and Thomas Keller’s picture perfect macarons from Bouchon Bakery. All quintessential Napa Valley.

It definitely made me realize how I need to take advantage of everything my hometown has to offer more often! This Friday Five, you’ll notice I pay extra attention to news and articles regarding Napa Valley. I really couldn’t help myself!

It’s Friday the 13th and I am in serious need of a cocktail. What the heck is wrong with the general public? Ugh!

Speaking of tasty cocktails, I am absolutely head over heels for the cocktail below. Cheers to us! Now, let’s get on with Friday Five.

1.Searching for a summer cocktail? (The correct answer is always.) This one incorporates tea, whiskey, and peaches AND can be made in large batches. Consider me sold.

2. Itching for your next trip? I’m loving these tips on how to bide your time in between travels.

3. Dying to try this rosemary focaccia bread in my cast iron skillet! I’ve never considered making a bread other than cornbread using my skillet.

4. Traveling to France (or just want to feel confident when asking for these brands?!)? Loving this guide to pronouncing famous French brands correctly.

5. OMG. Despite how much effort and time go into this recipe, how awesome would it be to make Tartine’s morning buns whenever you wanted them? Mmm…

 

Spicy Chili-Lime Chicken Tacos

Despite loving to travel and very much enjoying my trip, I’m still recovering from my visit to west Tennessee. And I don’t just mean the exhaustion from two full days of traveling or the aches in my body from sitting in an airplane seat and lugging around my tightly packed carry-on. No, I mean my taste buds.

For the duration of my trip, I survived on tasty Memphis-style barbecue, chicken ‘n dumplings, pulled pork, hamburgers, and casseroles. Plus all of the desserts we made, like my bourbon pecan pie bars and chocolate chip cookies. Basically, I was craving fresh veggies paired with a spicy depth that only Asian and Mexican flavors can provide.

Enter these tacos bursting with Thai-Mexican fusion flavor!

How are you feeling today? Today, the Friday after Cinco de Mayo, is a bit foggy for me. I enjoyed one too many beverages last night, like the gorgeous ombre margaritas below. Did you celebrate?
