Perfect Party Spinach Dip

Happy Friday! This is the happiest Friday in a while, because I’m finally feeling like I’m kicking this monster of a cold in the butt. And getting over this cold means I’m getting my appetite back– hallelujah! With the Superbowl in a week (Go Broncos!), I’ll be making this spinach dip that’s perfect for any gathering or party and for me stuffing my face.

I found this recipe on AllRecipes a while back, in a time where I was not a spinach dip fan. Yes friends, such a time existed, and it was quite recently. Remember how I keep talking about this housewarming party Shaylyn and I threw back in June (see here and here)? Well that was the event that changed me into a spinach dip lover. Well, a lover of my spinach dip. Read the rest of this entry

Caprese Skewers

Last weekend, I went up to Chico to help my lovely friend Charise get ready for her housewarming party. She and her husband had just purchased their home about a month before, and she was requested backup for preparing for the event (read: shopping at Costco). After our journey to Costco and the resulting wine-o’clock recovery, we started prepping some of the food for the next day’s party. Because I’m unconditionally and irrevocably in love with cheese, I was thrilled when I saw a huge bag of mozzarella cheese packs in the fridge.  Charise was making caprese salad skewers and I was so excited!

Two Days in Prague: What to Do

Tuesdays can be good things. Taco Tuesdays, Travel Tuesdays, Martini Tuesdays.. All good things. This Tuesday is a Travel Tuesday sort of day. The lovely ladies at The Lazy Travelers + the Hubs will soon be in one of my favorite cities in the world: Prague. I’ve written about some of my favorite memories of Prague and where to eat in Prague, but I wanted to be a bit more specific for this trio. They’ll only in Prague for a couple of days, so I told them I’d give them my “must dos” and throw in some extras , in case they manage to wind up with some more time!

Hula’s Chinese Bar-B-Q

Happy Tuesday! I’m still adjusting to the time change. It is so hard to justify getting out of bed at 6:45 am when I know in my head that on Saturday it would have been 5:45 am. I digress.

Last week, I posted about my fabulous weekend in Chico, CA and mentioned my favorite hangover cure, Hula’s. My very first time at Hula’s, I had absolutely no idea what to do. Napa doesn’t really have anything quite like it, so I was extremely thankful I had a seasoned Hula’s vet with me to show me the ropes. Now, young grasshoppa’, I pass this valuable knowledge along to you for whenever you travel to Chico. Read the rest of this entry

January Foodie Pen Pals

I cannot believe the first month of 2013 is already over. It’s almost Valentine’s Day (read: I have to buy/make Valentine’s or cookies. Cookies it is!). I’m also two weeks away from visiting Em in Los Angeles! Guess what else? It’s Foodie Pen Pals reveal day!

Mellissa, over at A Fit and Spicy Life, was an absolute doll and sent me healthy treats for January’s Foodie Pen Pals. She hails from the Twin Cities and describes herself as a 30-something newlywed who loves food, working out, traveling, and (my personal fave) wine. Her package came at a perfect time, because around this time of year, everyone is all on healthy eating kicks. Let’s take a peak at what she sent me, shall we?

Let Me Upgrade You: Ramen Noodles

Ay, ay ay! I forgot to post last week. Silly girl, I know. Well, I hope to make it up to you all by posting twice this week!

For those of you who follow me on twitter, remember how I posted about that Martha Stewart Ramen Noodle Upgrade? Well, I had already started thinking about way to make it more meal-like than the original dish. You know, make enough to serve more than just me. Sometimes I try to not be anti-social. Thoughts of tofu, veggies, and sesame oil crossed my mind. I finally put my thought into action and created this yummy, filling version which makes enough for 3-4. Per usual, Martha knows best– I just made some improvements on what “best” could be.

Drool worthy.

Guest Post: Heather’s October Foodie Pen Pals

Howdy everyone! As I mentioned in my October Foodie Pen Pals post this morning, Heather wrote up a guest post for me to put on here, since she doesn’t have a blog (YET!). Heather is currently preparing for a fitness competition, and therefore isn’t eating refined grains, sweets or dried fruit currently. She follows a high protein, moderate carbohydrate diet. She’s also a registered dietitian and currently resides in Michigan. Let’s all say hello to Heather!

After a long day of work outs, work and class, what a pleasant surprise it was to receive my October Foodie Pen Pals box from Natalie. This is my first time participating in the Foodie Pen Pals program (which, as I’m learning, is the coolest idea ever!) and so I wasn’t sure what to expect.

Bite-Sized Polenta Pizza

It’s been a while since I’ve posted a recipe, hasn’t it? Well wait no more! I know I’ve said it once, I’ll say it again, I love pizza. It could have to do with my not-so slight obsession with cheese. Or the fact that I can eat a whole can of black olives in one sitting. By myself. The problem with pizza is that I either have to order one over the phone/at a restaurant, or I have to buy pizza dough and whatever toppings I’m feeling like that day. I mean, who wants to leave their house just to have the deliciousness that is pizza? (Hint: not me!) Well the lovely Ms. Kimberly at Poor Girl Eats Well, one of my favorite food blogs, has changed the way I get my pizza fix!

Chicago Eats: Pot Pan Thai

It’s no secret that I love Thai food. A while back I wrote about how I fell in love with Thai food at a restaurant in Napa. And yes, to this day, the owner of Mini Mango Thai Bistro recognizes me and knows my order, down to substitutions. While in Chicago last month, my co-traveler Mel and I stumbled upon a great Thai restaurant. Out of all of the restaurants I tried in the Midwest, Pot Pan Thai was my absolute favorite.

Tahoe Eats: Basecamp Pizza

I’m a huge fan of pizza. I consider it to be a hangover cure (or prevention tool). It’s a great happy hour food. Lovely for a movie or game night. And it has cheese. I’m a huge fan of cheese. I’m pretty sure I could become a vegan if I didn’t have to give up cheese to be successful in the lifestyle.

I’m also a huge fan of the Hunger Games. I’ll spare you the bad joke about being incredibly hungry after watching the intense movie starring Jennifer Lawrence while in Tahoe. But really, I was hungry after sitting in a movie theater for almost two and a half hours. On my way back to the hotel, we stopped by Base Camp Pizza located in Heavenly Village.
