2013 Highlights

First of all, HAPPY (late) NEW YEAR! So, on New Year’s Eve 2012, I posted a bunch of highlights from the year. I was so prepared. And for NYE 2013, I was in Paris and well on my way to a cheese and Champagne-induced coma. Sooo.. I wasn’t prepared. But, better late than never, right?

Let’s take a gander at all the delightful things 2013  threw my way!

Bienvenido a Miami!

“Party in the city where the heat is on, all night, on the beach till the break of dawn,” Will Smith couldn’t have described my trip to Miami any more accurately. During my long weekend in Miami for my cousin’s bachelorette party, we pretty much ate and drank our way through beaches, restaurants, and clubs. After being welcomed by the sight of palm trees, we stocked up for the weekend at Total Wine & More (for all you west coasters, like a BevMo) and Publix (a grocery chain) where I stumbled upon the world’s hugest avocado (below). The next few days, we sunbathed on a gorgeous beach at our condo, and discovered which foods I can add to my “hangover cure” list (following Perrier with lime, scrambled eggs and English muffins with heaps of butter, in case you’re wondering).

20130516-165506.jpgWe clubbed, we ate, and yes, we drank. Pretty successful weekend, if you ask me. I’ve conjured up a list of my favorite places that I’d go back to in a heartbeat.

April Foodie Pen Pals

Ay, ay, ay!  Coachella, Miami, and a work event over consecutive weekends makes for a very swamped Natalie! I swear I’ll get to posting about my aforementioned trips. But today, I write about food. I know, you’re shocked.

This month’s Food Pen Pals post is very baking-y. Go ahead, say that out loud: baking-y.

Melissa from Cupcake Friday Project is a magazine editor by day, but is slowly working on teaching herself all things pastry in the hopes of owning her own bakery cafe someday. Swoooooon! I could totally be a drop in chef at her bakery. Right? She also loves sending homemade gifts, and aside from baking, she makes her own jams. Can we be best friends?

Pasta with Sausage and Globe Tomatoes

Happy Wednesday! I love mini weeks. Partially because it means a shorter work week, but mostly because it means I can play more over the weekend.

Three very important things:

  • I don’t think I’ll ever stop going to 80s-themed parties. Yep, that happened this weekend. Also, food for thought: when do we get to start having 90s-themed parties? I really wanna rock my chola bangs, baby tees, and those hideous single strap, chunky wedges. And butterfly clips. And any of these things. Cue the “She could be a farmer in those clothes” references.
  • There weren’t any correct guesses as to my next big trip. I’m going to go ahead and call the romantic and the wino from The Lazy Travelers the winners because not only did they guess the correct coast (it was 50/50..), but their guess (NYC) is somewhere I plan on visiting asap! FYI the correct answer was Miami! BTW I need tips and tricks and things to avoid. Also, I’ll stop with the acronyms for now. Oh! Ladies, did you want baked goods?
  • After I was soliciting those aforementioned guesses, I booked a trip that actually comes before the Miami trip.. I’m going to the City of Angels in a few short weeks to visit the lovely Emily in WeHo (that’s short for West Hollywood, in case you were wondering) for an extended weekend! I couldn’t be more excited for a few days of fun in the sun and potential washed up/crazy/hot celebrity sightings. Anyone have fun ideas for us?

So, before we get started with this recipe, I have to admit something. There isn’t a cliché cute presentation photo because.. well, because I started digging in before I could take one. I’m sorry if you’re disappointed. I really couldn’t help it.
