Friday Five

  1. I spent last week/weekend in the gorgeous Pacific North West for my darling friend Kortni’s wedding. I’ll be sharing more fun things to do and places to eat/drink at soon!

2. Karla made Pad Thai from scratch and I just can’t even. This girl does it all and makes it look so effortless!

3. So proud of this Napa Valley restaurant for getting the attention it deserves from Zagat. Plus, who doesn’t love Game of Thrones?

4. Erin made her way across the US! I particularly love this photo essay she did from her visit to a National Park, don’t you?

5. Because we could all use a little help pairing two of our favorites: cheese and wine.

Crockpot Curry Cashew Chicken

Can you believe it? We are officially in autumn! I really, really hope that the Northern California weather can cooperate, because these 90+ degree days are just not cutting it. I’m ready for chunky sweaters, boots, soy chai tea lattes, and all of the crock pot recipes. All of them.

Napa has basically been acting like a desert over the past few months and I’m over it. A girl can eat only so many salads and stir-fry dishes. So, I decided to pretend like it was fall and cook a fabulous curry without heating up my kitchen. This recipe from Creme de la Crumb is so fast and so delicious, you will wonder why you haven’t made it sooner! I might be speaking from personal experience.

So! Are you ready for the easiest curry recipe in all of the land?  Read the rest of this entry

Friday Five

1. It’s been a hot few weeks in the Napa Valley. Plus, you may have heard about the massive Valley Fire in nearby Lake, Solano and Napa counties that has been devastating many communites. Needless to say, rain has been extremely welcomed and our fingers are crossed for more in the near future. Click here to learn how you can help those affected by the Valley Fire.

2. These packing tips would have been so helpful when I was packing for my Paris trip. Perhaps it means I need to go back soon? I think so.

3. Who wants to spend hours after work cooking a delicious meal? No one. These meals are ready in 20 minutes or less and look ah-maz-ing.

4. Granted I lived in Prague about 5 years ago (HOW has it been that long!?), I can vouch for the epic bar scene in the Czech capital. However, I’m fascinated by how grown up the cocktail scene seems to have grown over the past few years. Definitely need to make a trip back to Prague!

5. I’m not even a pumpkin fan (please don’t hate me..), but Allie’s grain-free, dairy-free pumpkin spice peanut butter muffins sound amazing!

Friday Five

On Tuesday, it was so hot in Napa, like, triple-digit hot. So, at 7 PM I went grocery shopping just to cool off. I also had ice cream for dinner.

1. Ever wonder which is more expensive, Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods? In Napa, the Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods are practically right next door to each other. I’ll keep shopping at my usual joint having read this article!

2. This curry cashew chicken recipe sounds amazing. AND it’s a slow cooker recipe! 100 F days be damned, I’m eating curry!

3. Welcome to the cool kids’ table, Oregon! Trust me when I say that you’ll wonder how you ever lived before In-N-Out came to your state!

4. I’ve only been to two of the three wineries listed in Forbes’ 3 Family Wineries to Embrace in Napa, but enjoyed wine from all three. Gorgeous views with delicious wines, what’s not to love!?

5. The wino went to one of my favorite cities: Chicago. She shared some of her favorite places to eat, drink and sleep in Part One and places to must see, those that are okay to skip and places you shouldn’t miss in Part Two. Now, who wants to fly me to the Windy City on their private jet?

Friday Five

1. Despite living in the absolutely gorgeous Napa Valley, I am guilty of taking it for granted. Before El Nino floods my drought-ridden state, I fully plan on squeezing in some time nestled among the vines with a glass of wine in my hand. You know, so I can report back to you on where to visit.

2. What’s your breaking point for airline charges? I agree with many of the airline gripes listed in this article. Still dreaming of the day I have my own private jet and can avoid the nickel-and-diming all together..

3. While I don’t know that this method is any easier than “regular” sushi (using seaweed), it does shake up the traditional way we eat sushi! I’m excited to try it before summer’s long gone.

4. As a total Francophile, these tips on doing Paris on the cheap have me excited. And yes, I promise to share my Parisian adventures soon!

5. California didn’t really have a winter last year.. So I feel no shame in wishing for it to be rainy and cozy soup weather already. That way I can eat this cheesy corn chowder with bacon gorgonzola  every. single day. #noshame
