The Best Tacos in Puerto Vallarta

Do you ever have those trips where some details are intensely more vivid than others? For me, those details typically revolve around food. I have a friend heading out to Puerto Vallarta after the New Year and she asked me for recommendations on places to eat and things to do. Luckily for her, my tastebuds (okay, and my travel journal) wouldn’t let me forget my favorite places and things to eat while I was in Puerto Vallarta in almost exactly two years ago.

The Best Fish Tacos in Puerto Vallarta

During my trip, it was clear that a few new restaurants that had popped up since my last visit to PV (which was my senior year in high school…yikes!) and it was a bit overwhelming trying to figure out where to get the best food in a touristy location. Nearly every restaurant we passed in the downtown area had someone trying to lure us in or huge signs promising the best *insert food item here* and I found it hard to make a decision.

There were also all sorts of ads for food tours but I found myself not really being drawn to one in particular. So, I decided to create my own taco crawl. And let me just tell you, this was an awesome idea! Thanks to the (usually) helpful Yelp and Trip Advisor reviewers, I ventured to a variety of restaurants and stuffed myself with the most delicious tacos I’ve had in a while. Getting Ready for a Caribbean Getaway

Guys. July has flown by! I’m still wrapping my brain around the fact I leave for the Caribbean in less than a week.

My pre-travel to-do list is still being chipped away at, but most of the important tasks have been completed. Updated passport for my stint in the British Virgin Islands? Check. Eye mask, neck pillow and ZzzQuil (love it so far!) for sleeping on my red-eye flight? Check. All of the mosquito repelling things to keep me Zika virus-free? Check. Discovering a schedule of happy hours for two of my destinations? Check. (See here and here.) Bring on the Painkillers! The cocktail, no pills!

Really hoping this ZzzQuil helps me sleep on my flight!

But the biggest thing on my to-do list is to pack! As my trip gets closer, the pile of clothes to pack continues to grow. This is not a great thing considering I’m going to have to cut out many cute summer dresses in the name of packing in a carry-on for my trip! Luckily, my destination boasts a very even-keeled climate, where the average high during my stay will be 85 F practically all the time.

Getting Ready for Summer Travel

Summer is practically here and I am beyond excited for my upcoming trip to the Caribbean! I’ve been researching island traditions, culture and travel tips. We’ve narrowed down our list of places to check out to 3.5 islands: 1 US Territory, 1 US Virgin Island, 1 British Virgin Island and a half-day trip to a “must see” on every traveler list I read. I’ve also been doing some shopping (bikinis! beach hats! rompers!) and mentally preparing for packing. Catching some rays (safely!) has also been high on my preparation list because my skin is ghostly and don’t want to burn to a crisp in the Caribbean sun. Snow White here needs her base tan!

Celebrating Fall at Apple Hill

Celebrating Fall at Apple Hill

Do you have any fall traditions? I started a new one this year!

I’ve heard about Apple Hill for many years and I’ve been wanting to go for a while. Located about 90 minutes from Napa in Placerville, Apple Hill attracts people from all over northern California and is known for its gorgeous views, bountiful apple harvest, and great photo opps.

And who doesn’t love an opportunity to try apple beer, apple bbq sauce and pick out pumpkins?! Read the rest of this entry

Exploring New York in Three Days

Mondays are not something I try to celebrate normally. But this Monday is exciting because I’m telling you about my trip to New York City! Yes, the one from December 2013. I promise food! booze! adventure! and touristy things! I also promise not to drag this first leg of my trip out any longer!

I’ve been missing New York pretty hard lately. There’s just something about getting lost in the bustling city that makes all of the obnoxious thoughts preoccupying your mind float away. Since I definitely don’t get hustle nor bustle in Napa, I’m forced to relive my New York City adventures through photos of my trip and my travel journal, which I’m so, so thankful I stuck to writing in. Especially since I’ve been putting off writing about my trip for over a year. It helped to remind me of the little details of our trip that my nearly 30 year old brain had already forgotten.

Three Days in NYC

While I’ve been to New York twice before, my parents hadn’t ever been until our trip! I wanted to take them to a few of my favorite places, some which also happen to be New York icons. Over the course of 3-ish days, we explored the known, got lost in the unknown and then ate and drank our way through New York City. At the end of our adventure that wonderful few days in December 2013, my parents felt like they had a pretty great overview of the Big Apple. Here’s what our visit looked like:

SF Eats: Two Days of Eating My Way Through San Francisco

Though it’s only an hour away, I always feel that I don’t get to San Francisco enough. It’s such a fun city to wander around. It also happens to be superb for people watching and meeting. Plus all of the amazing food and cocktail options? Yeah, it’s a pretty sweet place that I’d love to get to know a lot better.

Early last month, I headed to San Francisco for a work conference and was forced to stay overnight in the city for  two nights. Right off Union Square. At a Kimpton Hotel. With a free rooftop happy hour that was killer. How horrible, I know.

I had an absolutely amazing time during my stay meeting up with a San Francisco-based blogger you may know, catching some sweet views and, as to be expected, eating and drinking my way through San Francisco. Now, I will pass along my knowledge, for your next trip to SF!

Places I’d Rather Be…

Call it the winter blues or just a blah week, but I am over this final week of January. Perhaps it’s something to do with Mercury being in retrograde? I’ve been seeing all sorts of articles about that, though I’m not really sure what it means, exactly. Even after reading said articles.

But anyway, the wonderful Ms. Kortni will be venturing down from Portland this weekend, giving me something fun to look forward to. I’m trying to occupy my mind with fun things for us to do. Wine tasting! Eating! Basking in 70 F degree California sunshine! But sometimes, I need like, full on distraction. To take my mind out of this funk, I’m whisking it away to other places I’d rather be.

Always suffering from a serious case of wanderlust, I decided to check out two of my favorite travel blogs– and dive into my personal travel history– in an effort to escape from reality for a bit. I decided that if I could go anywhere, right.this.second., I’d want to go to one of these three places:  Read the rest of this entry
