Friday Five

Anyone else having an emotional roller coaster of a week? Whether due to your political views or what’s going on in your personal life, I’m a firm believer that it doesn’t take effort to be kind to any person you encounter (in person or online). So with that thought in mind, go give a stranger a compliment. Tell your parent(s), (fur)babies, friends, and family you love them. Hold the door open for that person walking in behind you. Maybe even pour your glass of wine/bourbon/chocolate milk just a little bit more full. Kindness doesn’t have to be difficult.

Now on to our regularly scheduled Friday Five programming!

Friday Five | @innatsshoes
1. Ummm… a chocolate tasting room in the heart of wine country!? I cannot wait to try this place out!

2. Excited to say I’ve been to the only Napa mention on this list of new wine country restaurants!

3. Wow! This chick is accomplishing a huge feat before she turns 27. Anyone else feel like an underachiever?

4. This is the cutest DIY craft for my absolute favorite holiday! If I make it, I’ll be sure to share!

5. Toffee is one of my go-to cravings. This recipe for toffee bites from Aimee at Schugary Sweets is too cute and too easy!

Friday Five

I hope you all had a wonderful Halloween! Last week, I prepped some spooky Halloween cookies with my friends. I’m quite proud of how my decorating turned out. Especially the cat with wonky eyes, creepy spikes, and a sinister mouth/whisker stich going on. Very scary, indeed.

We celebrated #halloweekend in San Francisco on Saturday night, dressed as Jim and Pam from the Office. AND I got to meet my chef crush AND take a pic with him. I died of happiness! Photo proof to come soon on my Insta. On actual Halloween I was a Scrooge. I turned off my porch light and read a book in my pajamas.

Okay, enough about my Halloween. Below are my favorite finds from the week!

Friday Five | @innatsshoes1. Joy makes Ina’s apple pie bar recipe and now I need to. I mean, just look at those pictures!

2. Heading to the Hawaiian islands? This awesome guide from Sunset gives you all the “must dos” for each island!

3. Apple cider AND bourbon?! This pie recipe sounds amazing and is absolutely perfect for Thanksgiving.

4. Erin at The World Wanderer ate her way through India last year. SO jealous! In a recent post, she shares all of the foods she’s looking forward to indulging in on her trip back next week!

5. OMG. After seeing all of these cool new additions to Walt Disney World, I’m devising my plan to get there in 2017!

Friday Five

HAPPY HALLOWEEN (WEEKEND)! I can’t wait to dress up (check it out on my insta tomorrow!) and indulge in candy and cocktails this weekend. Last weekend, I carved the most amazing sugar skull pumpkin (below). It took for absolute ever but I was so proud. It was on display all last week, but with all the wonky weather we’ve been having, it died before Halloween *womp womp* Oh well. Let’s get this Friday Five going! Friday Five | @innatsshoes

1.The ladies of the Lazy Travelers drank all the wine while visiting Portugal, here’s proof. Okay, at least they tried.

2. Have you heard of these candles that (supposedly) smell like home? This Northern California candle has my name all over it — even though I’m not homesick.

3. I cannot get enough scallops. However, cooking them myself is a bit intimidating (and I’ve never tried!). This recipe from Tasting Table makes the process of cooking the scallops sound easy and delicious — a win-win!

4. I just discovered a whole slew of Napa Valley happy hour listings and I cannot wait to try all of these out! Thanks, Two Guys from Napa.

5. Umm.. Bailey’s chocolate mousse?! This will definitely be on my holiday menu! So easy!

Friday Five

I’m so thrilled it’s Friday! I have big plans to do absolutely nothing all weekend and I could not be more stoked. So until the weekend officially starts, I’m going to pretend I’m back in Mendocino at the beach and leave you all with some of my favorite links I found over the week. Deal?

1 I’ve already busted out my slow cooker this season for some delicious pulled chicken. Can’t wait to try this recipe from Pinch of Yum!

2. Pola’s top 10 reasons to visit Valencia (here) has me itching to go!

3. I’ve always wanted to go on a yoga retreat and this list of the top ten is only encouraging me. Relaxation, yoga, beautiful scenery.. what could be better?

4. Soup season is upon us and this easy recipe from Cafe Delights sounds so tasty! Now to figure out when I’ll make it..

5. Loving that so many Napa Valley favorites made this list of  Best Food and Wine Resorts: Readers’ Choice Awards 2016 by Andrew Harper!

Friday Five

Have you noticed? The mornings have been crisp and staying darker longer over the past week. Autumn, both in general and while in Napa Valley, is my absolute favorite time of year. Leaves and vineyards are changing colors, a warm beverage is absolutely necessary in the morning, and the urge to bake everything apple flavored is strong. I’ve been trying to be more present during my favorite season, to notice more of my favorite things about this wonderful time of year, in hopes that time will slow down and allow me to savor it a little longer. And yes, I’ll enjoy an extra Spiced Apple Chai this weekend, kthanks.

Now let’s get back to our regularly scheduled programming, shall we?

1.I cannot wait to make this overnight breakfast recipe from Chels, now that it’s officially fall (please! like I really need an excuse!).

2. Speaking of fall, I’ve been straight up ogling these fall weekend trips, perfectly suited for fall! I can say that the three I’ve been to were amazing. Plus, the ladies at the Lazy Travelers have detailed a few of the locations on their site, too, so I’m thinking the list is legit.

3. I’ve had sushi cones and heard of sushi burritos. But this is a new one! Would you try it?

4. I suppose Maine has never been high up on my wanderlist because I’ve never heard much about it. After reading Erin’s trip to Rockland here, it’s inching up the list!

5. Ever since my Jalapeño Popper Dip, I’ve been itching to use jalapeños more frequently in my cooking. Enter this delicious sounding recipe from Sommer!

Friday Five

Well, y’all, we finally made it to AUTUMN! I am so excited and can’t stop sharing it. What are you baking this weekend?!

It’s actually supposed to be a million degrees (give or take) in Napa this weekend, which means my baking will likely be delayed. Unless it cools off at night. Then I’ll bake the crap out of all the things. We’ll see.Friday Five | @innatsshoes1. I was trying to replicate a recipe for a coconut macaroon I had the pleasure of devouring a few weeks ago and searched Pinterest for the recipe. While this recipe (my version in the photo above) wasn’t like the one I ate, it was so easy and turned out soooooo tasty!

2. Oooohhh! Another fancy Japanese restaurant is coming to Napa! Excited to see what this one brings.

3. OMG. So there was a #lazyreunion in Portugal (during high season!) and I cannot get over how heavenly their trip looks! The Lazy Travelers continue to blow up my wanderlist. The. End.

4. Autumn is hands down my favorite season. Food! Cozy sweaters! Baking! Chilly nights! Apples! I’m loving this compilation of things to do in Sonoma County, so I don’t have to drive all the way to Apple Hill every time I want an apple-centric experience.

5. Continuing on that thought… how amazing do these cookies sound? I absolutely love macadamia nuts. Browned butter? Yes please.

Friday Five

Oh, we made it through the week! We certainly deserve a cocktail in celebration, don’t we?

1.If you follow me on Instagram (you totally should), you know I’m a big fan of both Manhattans (up, please) and Old Fashioneds with bourbon. No rye for this girl. This update on an Old Fashioned adds peach and orange flowers!! I can’t wait to try.

2. Cassoulet is one of my absolute favorite French dishes. Thanks to this 7×7 article, I can now replicate the tasty version from SF’s oldest French bistro, Le Central Bistro.

3. Despite laughing through this entire list of things that happen while wine tasting, I can’t help but nod my head in agreement with just about all of them. We’ve all been there, ya?

4. I’m always looking for plants that I can keep alive for longer than a month. Thanks to Sunset’s awesome cactus styling video, now I can look like I know what I’m doing!

5. Summer is coming to a close, but I’m still itching to get a few of these done when I head up to Tahoe later this month!

How are you prepping for the end of summer / beginning of autumn? I can’t wait to start baking!

Friday Five

Oh man. It’s been a hell of a week. Very much looking forward to enjoying a cocktail or five over this long weekend coming up. Is it 5 PM yet?

Below are some of my favorite finds from the past week. Enjoy!Friday Five | @innatsshoes

1. Having been to Plzeň in the Czech Republic during my studies abroad, I can absolutely attest to everyone needing to visit. I’m loving Randi and Michaels’s recommendations for a day trip to this quaint town, which also happens to produce the most tasty beer!

2. Bourbon lovers rejoice! Here’s a super easy bourbon vanilla ice cream recipe, no churning required!

3. Pinrose Scents now makes candles!? Where have I been? I feel like I need this one in my life.

4. Mrs. O had a girls’ weekend In Marbella, Spain and *spoiler alert* her trip featured the most luxurious accommodations I’ve seen in a while! Plus, that paella!?

5. I’ll admit, I originally wanted to read about making a better cup of coffee when I clicked OXO’s article.. But now all I want is one of those cute coffee makers in the main image!

Friday Five

I’m still not ready to be back to reality. My Caribbean trip was simply too amazing! And with views like this, who would want to go back to being a responsible adult with a schedule? Not me, that’s for sure.

Okay. Deep breaths. Let’s cope with real life by distracting ourselves. A brand new Friday Five is here!

1.I am beyond excited for this new Girl Scout Cookie flavor! Seriously, when can I get my hands on a box?

2. Loving this write up in the LA Times on my alma mater. “Party school” definitely not apply anymore.

3. A healthier version of Mongolian Chicken? Yes please!

4. While I haven’t been to this Caribbean Island, I can attest that it doesn’t take long to feel like a local in the Caribbean.

5. I am so excited for this pie recipe from Recipe Girl! Loved it as a kid and can’t wait to make it myself.

Friday Five

This week was my first full workweek back from vacation. I am still struggling with the fact I’m back to reality now. Ugh. Did you follow along on my instagram to see my adventures? Be sure to check it out! Anyway, let’s Friday Five to forget about this past week!

Friday Five | @innatsshoes1. My recent trip to the Caribbean only further affirmed my love for coconut. These cupcakes seal the deal!

2. This baked macaroni and cheese sounds absolutely heavenly and easy!

3. I love bar/cocktail crawls, especially when traveling! Will be adding this list of Prague bars to my to-do list.

4. I love popsicles. However, I adore wine. This recipe combines the two!

5. Cracking up over this list and commentary about What Your Plane Outfit Says About You!
