January Foodie Pen Pals

I cannot believe the first month of 2013 is already over. It’s almost Valentine’s Day (read: I have to buy/make Valentine’s or cookies. Cookies it is!). I’m also two weeks away from visiting Em in Los Angeles! Guess what else? It’s Foodie Pen Pals reveal day!

Mellissa, over at A Fit and Spicy Life, was an absolute doll and sent me healthy treats for January’s Foodie Pen Pals. She hails from the Twin Cities and describes herself as a 30-something newlywed who loves food, working out, traveling, and (my personal fave) wine. Her package came at a perfect time, because around this time of year, everyone is all on healthy eating kicks. Let’s take a peak at what she sent me, shall we?

November Foodie Pen Pals

I cannot believe that Thanksgiving has already passed. Guys, this means we’re officially into the countdown for Christmas. Yikes! I shouldn’t be too worried, I have three Secret Santa parties to attend– so much easier to buy for one person than figuring out a gift for everyone at each of the parties!– and only buy presents for my family and a handful of individual friends. But I really do like to bake a lot, in lieu of providing gifts for family functions, co-workers, etc. I suppose the anxiety comes from the fact that there will be a lot of baking involved, and my kitchen isn’t incredibly large.

Rather than focusing on what is eating away at my brain, let’s focus on something fun! exciting! and delicious! Let’s focus on: November Foodie Pen Pals reveal day!

Guest Post: Heather’s October Foodie Pen Pals

Howdy everyone! As I mentioned in my October Foodie Pen Pals post this morning, Heather wrote up a guest post for me to put on here, since she doesn’t have a blog (YET!). Heather is currently preparing for a fitness competition, and therefore isn’t eating refined grains, sweets or dried fruit currently. She follows a high protein, moderate carbohydrate diet. She’s also a registered dietitian and currently resides in Michigan. Let’s all say hello to Heather!

After a long day of work outs, work and class, what a pleasant surprise it was to receive my October Foodie Pen Pals box from Natalie. This is my first time participating in the Foodie Pen Pals program (which, as I’m learning, is the coolest idea ever!) and so I wasn’t sure what to expect.

October Foodie Pen Pals

Happy Halloween! In case you were wondering, I’ll be dressing up as a Gamer Babe from Half Moon Bay Napa, in honor of my World Series champs. I’m also seriously wishing I could be at the parade in San Francisco today!

Over the last few weeks, it’s been acting like autumn (off and on) in the Bay Area, and I’m loving it. Not only is autumn my favorite season, but it’s also my favorite time to bake and be crafty!

Speaking of baking, I was really excited to see what I got in my October Foodie Pen Pals package from Tabitha earlier this month!

A Travel, Food, and Craft Update

This week’s post consists of updates and news.

I “traveled” (all 60 minutes driving time) to San Francisco on Saturday for the Treasure Island Music Festival. What a blast! Here are some photos from my adventure!

The ladies at The Lazy Travelers have inspired me, once again. This time it was to create a “Where I’ve Traveled” page on my blog, extremely similar to their “Where We’ve Been” page. You should go check out some of the awesome places The Romantic and The Wino have been! I found out I’ve been to 18 states in America. I can’t decide if I think that having visited 36% of my nation’s states is a decent amount for being in my 20s. I think I need to change that soon!

Kate at Words for Worms nominated me for both a Liebster Award and a Sunshine Award! Thanks for thinking I’m award-worthy 🙂

I mailed out my package for The Lean Green Bean‘s Foodie Pen Pals program for October! I’m very excited to see how Heather likes what I’ve sent her. I might be even more excited to see what Tabitha is mailing me. Since Heather doesn’t have a blog, we’re discussing the idea of her doing a guest post on here!

Speaking of guest posts, I’m going to be a featured Jetsetter for one of the upcoming weeks on The Lazy Travelers! Very, very honored. I’ll give you all a link to the post once it’s up.

I actually have free weekends for the next few weekends, so I’m going to hunker down and get crafting! I have a few ideas for around the home and a couple for the upcoming holiday and birthday season. Obviously, I’ll also be scanning other DIY and craft blogs that I follow and I’ll likely hit up Pinterest for some ideas, too! Assuming they turn out somewhat attractive, I’ll post them up soon.

September Foodie Pen Pals

The Lean Green Bean

Foodie Pen Pals

Guys, I just read about, and then immediately signed up for, the coolest thing. Quite possibly ever.

So, sometimes I get nosy.. When people like or comment on one of my posts, or start following my blog, I check out their site. I swear I’m not stalking! I just want to know a little bit about the person interested in what I have to say, and to see if we have any common interests (read: to see if I want to read their blog, too!). Sometimes I even start following their blog (as is the case with The Lazy Travelers— those girls seriously make my day). Occasionally, their blog leads me to other fabulous blogs! Well, yesterday exactly that happened. The ever lovely WordPress sent me a notification that vincentesf liked my Pot Pan Thai post. So, I snooped on his blog Vittle Monster. Among other drool-worthy food posts, he had a post up about something called Foodie Pen Pals. Being a girl who loved having pen pals growing up (and still has email pals from all over the world) I was instantly intrigued.  At the end of his post, there was a badge to click for more information. Obviously, I clicked it!

Turns out Lindsay from The Lean Green Bean started this really awesome program in September of 2011. She receives contact information from people who want to be involved in a food exchange and pairs up two individuals from within the US or Canada and for those in the UK, she directs them to Carol Anne from This Is Rock Salt. Everyone paired checks in with their partner for the month to verify food allergies, dietary needs, and preferences. Then they each go out and collect a sampling local foods, favorite foods, or whatever, as long as the total of the goodies purchased is within the $15 limit, and ships it to the person Lindsay paired them with. Lindsay requests that each box contain something written (a note, an explanation of the goodies inside, a recipe, etc.) and that if you are a blogger, or even just a willing reader, provide a guest post! One could potentially receive snacks from all over their country every month!

According to Lindsay’s site, new people (or people who have not participated in recent months) need to sign up before the 5th of every month in order to be partnered with someone from their country. Since I signed up on the 4th, I just made the cut and received my confirmation email from Lindsay. Obviously, I’ll keep you all up to date on my experience with this. I’m really excited as if you couldn’t tell!!
