September Foodie Pen Pals

Ay ay ay! It’s Monday was Foodie Pen Pals reveal day, and it’s been so long since I’ve participated in Foodie Pen Pals! This month, Ms. Lindsay changed things up a bit– she had us exchange in pairs! So while I was collecting foodie items to mail to Meghan, Meghan was gathering items to mail to me.

Before we delve into what’s inside the box pictured below, I’ll acknowledge the fact that I’ve been terrible about updating this thing. I’ve been busy with work and personal tasks, planning my European adventure (which now includes Brussels!!!), and whatnot. I’ve been itching to get back to baking, trying new recipes, and sharing my upcoming travel plans. So to those of you who use this blog to keep tabs on me (*ahem* Auntie Donna..), fear not! I’m back.

The first thing I spotted in this ginormous box sent from Meghan in Tampa Bay was a sweet note.

And then these four items:

Ever since my Miami trip, I’ve been obsessed with plantain chips. They are so so so tasty! There’s a restaurant inside the Westin Verasa Napa called The Bank. It’s the cheaper and dog-friendly version of La Toque, and it has plantain chips. I order them as a side to whatever I order– usually just cocktails or beer. Don’t judge. It made my day to find these lightly salted plantain chips in my box!

This thing kind of scared me. And then I realized it’s for food and Meghan wrote in her not that she never even uses the “injector” part of Cajun Injector, so I felt a little better. I have yet to use the marinade, but I love, love, love garlic and herbs, I’m pretty positive I’ll also love this stuff.

Unfortunately, I still haven’t grown the cajones to try green boiled peanuts from my November 2012 Foodie Pen Pals box so I really doubt I’ll be trying these bad boys anytime soon. But I do appreciate the “thinking outside the box” approach to picking out foodie items. Which also leads me to..

These crisp okra pickles. I’m sad to say I think these are being handed off to my father. I hate okra and I hate pickles. Unless they’re minced and in my mom’s potato salad.. You can’t win them all, I suppose.

Thanks to Meghan for picking out foodie items for me that are indicative of her Tampa Bay-area! She doesn’t have a blog, but we briefly discussed a guest post option for her to share what I sent to her.

If you’re interested in participating in October’s Foodie Pen Pals, you must sign up here by Friday (the 4th). Lindsay also lists the rules on that page. To see what I’ve received in past months, click here!

About In Natalie's Shoes

I’m a twenty-something food fanatic. By day, I’m working for a non-profit, by night I’m dreaming of becoming a domestic goddess, creating adorable crafts to gift and engineering delicious home cooked meals for the fabulous dinner parties I’ll one day throw. I love to travel, locally, regionally… heck, even internationally, I don’t discriminate too much when it comes to a new destination. I am a little obsessed with taking photos of the food I eat, whether I make it or pay to eat it. It is my firm belief that a girl can never have enough purses or too many shoes. I plan to fill this lovely little blog with my adventures in food, travel, and craftiness. I hope you enjoy!
